5 Signs Your Website Is Costing You Customers

1 August 2026

1. It takes more than a couple of seconds to load

Most visitors decide whether to stay or leave within the first few seconds. If your site is slow (especially on mobile, where a lot of your customers will land), you're losing people before they've read a word.

2. It's not obvious how to get in touch

A phone number buried three pages deep, or a contact form that doesn't actually work, costs you real enquiries. The fastest route to "get in touch" should never be more than one click away.

3. It doesn't look right on a phone

More than half your visitors are probably on mobile. If text is too small, buttons are hard to tap, or the layout breaks, they won't struggle with it. They'll just leave.

4. There's nothing new on it

An outdated "latest news" section, an old copyright year, or prices that haven't been touched in years all quietly signal that a business might not be around anymore, or isn't paying attention.

5. It doesn't say what you actually do

If a new visitor can't tell what you do and who it's for within a few seconds, the rest of the page won't get read.

Clear, specific copy beats clever copy every time: "Emergency plumbing across Bristol, same-day callout" will always outperform a vague slogan.

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a proper look at what your site might be costing you. Get in touch and we'll take a look.
